  • Questions questions..

    1a). Is there a post's lenght variable (something like strlen($text) ) available for postbit_legacy?

    1b) is there a string world limit ("this is an example of recipe I wrote" -> "this is an example...") function available for templates?

    2. how are custom profile fields sorted for display? If I delete some fields afterwards, how is that handled?

    3. Can posting Rules be collapsed by default (or forced to collapsed for all users)?

    4. Is there a way to list posts from selected forums to one page (using search could work but it does does not allow empty keyword).

    Thanks!

    1a) I don't know of any such variable.

    1b) Not for the templates, no. That would need to be done in the PHP code in the files.

    2) I'm not sure what you mean by "how are they sorted?" If you delete a profile field then the user values stored in that field are lost.

    3) Edit this template:

    Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> « » -> forumrules

    Make the change in red:

    Code:
    <table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="180">
    <thead>
    <tr>
    	<td class="thead">
    		<a style="float:$stylevar[right]" href="#top" onclick="return toggle_collapse('forumrules')"><img id="collapseimg_forumrules" src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/collapse_thead$vbcollapse[collapseimg_forumrules].gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>
    		$vbphrase[posting_rules]
    	</td>
    </tr>
    </thead>
    <tbody id="collapseobj_forumrules" style="[color=red]display: none;[/color]">
    <tr>
    	<td class="alt1" nowrap="nowrap"><div class="smallfont">
    		<if condition="!$show['codeonly']">
    		<div><phrase 1="$rules[postnew]">$vbphrase[you_may_x_post_new_threads]</phrase></div>
    		<div><phrase 1="$rules[postreply]">$vbphrase[you_may_x_post_replies]</phrase></div>
    		<div><phrase 1="$rules[attachment]">$vbphrase[you_may_x_post_attachments]</phrase></div>
    		<div><phrase 1="$rules[edit]">$vbphrase[you_may_x_edit_your_posts]</phrase></div>
    		<hr />
    		</if>
    		<div><phrase 1="misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=bbcode" 2="$bbcodeon">$vbphrase[vb_code_is_x]</phrase></div>
    		<div><phrase 1="misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=showsmilies" 2="$smilieson">$vbphrase[smilies_are_x]</phrase></div>
    		<div><phrase 1="misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=bbcode#imgcode" 2="$imgcodeon">$vbphrase[img_code_is_x]</phrase></div>
    		<div><phrase 1="$htmlcodeon">$vbphrase[html_code_is_x]</phrase></div>
    	</div></td>
    </tr>
    </tbody>
    </table>
    That will make it so the Forum Rules box is always collapsed by default.

    4) That would take some custom code. I recommend you post on www.vbulletin.org about this.

      Then please add it to wishlist I would like to have one (without hacking) to make it possible to change postbit layouts based on post's length (post+signature length would be ideal)

      2) I'm not sure what you mean by "how are they sorted?" If you delete a profile field then the user values stored in that field are lost.
      I mean if I enter in editor

      XXX
      CCC
      AAA
      1
      2
      BBB

      how is this sorted? Can I get it sorted alphanumeric automatically or do I have to enter them in correct order. What I'm worried about if I change the order or delete from middle will the selections stick with original names?

      Thanks

        Sorted where?

        You can set display orders for profile fields in your:

        Admin CP -> User Profile Fields -> User Profile Field Manager

          Sorry missed one vital point, I am talking about one multiple selection menu custom field, with about 300 items. User can choose perhaps 10 items.

          So the question is

          - how is multiple selection menu list sorted?
          - do the current (remaining) selections stick with correct names when I add or remove items in multiple selection menu?

            The selected values are stored using a binary scheme. See the second post in this thread.

            You can add more options without any problems. If you change existing options then the selected values for your users will change because you are changing the options for existing bits.
