How to recover admin password ?

Hi,

I have unfortunately lost my admin password for my vBulletin 3 installation.
What is the best way to recover the password ? I have tried forgot password, but i never get an email with the password information.

Any help appreciated.

That is the best way, and right now really the only way, you can register a new user, upload tools.php(it is found in the DO_NOT_UPLOAD folder) to the admincp directory, use tools.php to give this new user admincp access, and restore your old user account.

then make sure to remove tools.php from the admincp directory

He says exactly in his post where.

The tools.php file is inside the vBulletin's .zip package in the do_not_upload/ folder, upload it to the web server through ftp to the forumdir/admincp/ directory and then point your browser to that location.

You can then go inside the admincp > users > search and find the other admin account and set a password you want.


As also said by zachery: DO remove the tools.php from the web server once done. You don't want others to abuse this powerful tools.php
