  • Change server timezones...

The way I understand it, timestamps are stored based on the vB default timezone. If this is true, how then may I change the timezones on the servers and not screw everything up?

Or... are times stored in GMT and everything will be ok

You need to set the timezone and DST settings in the Admin CP to match the timezone of the server your forums are running on. Then each user needs to set their local timezones/DST in the User CP.

Hmm, I don't know if you exactly understood.

I run vB forums and have over 200k posts. I am changing the timezone of the server (currently -5 ET to -8 PT).

Since the timestamps for the posts, etc.. seem to be stored as ET... will this affect the times when I change the timezone on the server and in the forum configuration??

The times are recorded as Unix timestamps. Changint the server time should not cause any problems with existing posts. However there may be an overlap with new posts in which the new ones may appear to be earlier than existing posts. I'm not really sure though. I've never run into a situation in which someone actually changed the time on the server on purpose.
