  • web based IRC.

What would it require for me to be able to add an web based chat channel where people can just click on the link and join a channel on a server of my choice? I thought i saw an irc hack on vborg but couldnt find it.

I use vBxIRC .. it is great, and doesn't require to buy software, integrates with vb perfectly and allows you to set the username(dynamic) ident, server and port and channel.

http://www.vBulletin.nl/community/chat.php come try it out. At this moment, Scott, Zachery and I are in the channel, some of the vBulletin.nl staff too and many vBulletin fans

I consider this your best choice as Floris has said. I've been using it for my members since it was released and the ones that use it they love it. (I'm in the irc channel but not able to respond since I'm about 25 minutes from my home computer so if you have any questions feel fre to ask me my name is DanielC on irc)

Look into javIRC too. I use that on my server, and it works flawlessly.

I use PJIRC. It's a free java applet you can customize.
                      http://www.pjirc.com/main.php

It can easily be integrated with VBulletin

I prefer not to integrate and just post it as a link for visitors to use.

You'll have to try them out for yourself. This appears to do all the standard IRC commands. I prefer mIRC. I only added the java client because a lot of people didn't want to bother setting up mIRC. You can also add a link for those that have an irc client in the form irc://ircservername/yourchannel(s) and it will open their client and take them to your room.
