  • Coding New Smilies

I have added one or two new smilies to my forum and noticed that there is a limit on the amount of characters that can be used in text to replace.

This seems to be limited to 10 characters. But some smilies that I have added, such as :happybirthday: contain more than 10.

The smilies are still functioning, but if a user tries to type the name of the smilie, rather than just clicking on it and the character count exceeds 10 then the user gets and unwanted : after the smilie.

Is there a fix for this or should I just make sure that all smilie text is less than 10 characters.

To change this you will need to manually edit the field length for the smilietext filed in the smilie table. It is char(10) by default. You could change this to char(20) or whatever you want.
