Thread Split Went Ary!

We decided to split a thread. However, we created the new thread first and then split the other thread into it. The split didn't work. The posts that were chosen to split "vanished" into thin air. Never to be seen again. According to the MOD log in the thread, it said the posts were split to threadid 124. However, that thread does not exist.

Where did the posts go? How do we get them back? Why did it say a threadid that is invalid?

Looking for some help.

You can't split posts directly into another thread. When you split a thread, another thread is automatically created for the new posts. Then you can merge that new thread with another thread, effectively splitting those posts into another thread. But it's a two step process.

I don't know why the posts would have disappeared. Try rebuilding your thread information:

Admin CP -> Import & Maintenance -> Update Counters -> Rebuild Thread Information

Unfortunately that did not work. The posts have just vanished and with that came a whole heap of issues because users thought we were moderating them. It is very scary that posts can vanish like that into thin air without anyway to undo such a mess.

Well as Jake said you cannot split posts into another threadid. Did you have a hack installed?

Otherwise it's possible that you split these posts into a cxatagory by accident. Temporarily change your catagories to forums (act like forum -> yes) then see if you can find these posts.
