  • Unable to add cookies, header already sent?

I was testing out a hack and i have run into a problem. Now i added a new template on one of my styles ( not my default ). The hack required that i change global.php. I started getting the following error.

Unable to add cookies, header already sent.
    File: /home/watford/public_html/forums/global.php
    Line: 644
So i changed global.php back to exactly what it was before but i am still getting the error. I have changed back to my default style which had no changes made to it but i still get the error.

Strange thing is that i am not getting the error on the first page but when trying to enter some of the forums and it seems all of the threads.

It wont let me log out either.

I have considered that if i clear my cookies this may fix the problem but i am worried i might not be able to log back in to my administration panel if i do , since this seems to be some sort of cookie error.

I am looking for confirmation from other users to see if guests are also getting these errors?

Does anyone know why this is happening or have heard of this kind of error before?

'Unable to add cookies' errors are almost always file related (assuming you have not added code to the templates.) I would reupload the original global.php file for your version. Make sure you upload in ASCII and overwrite the one on the server.

That seems to have fixed it. Strange... i only changed one line of code and i am 100% sure i changed it back exactly as it was before on the server when the error came. I even checked my old backup file and it looks identical so its odd that uploading that would fix the problem.

      Scripting... the mystery continues...

Which editor do you use to make file changes?

Well like i said.. uploading the old copy of global.php fixed it even though the one on the server seemed identical.

I originally edited the one of the server through file manager in my server control panel.

It was most likely a slight typo in the editing.

I Have the seme problem when I use dreamweber to change a line, and the only way was to get back to the original.

Dont ever use dreamweaver to edit vBulletin files, it will cause problems.

Zachery can you recommend a good editor to use for working with php? I have dreamweaver mx and was planning to use that since it now been upgraded for use with php. Perhaps dreamweaver mx would be ok.

I got my problem when editing the file on the server through my control panel, strangely enough i tryed to reinstall the hack and got the same error again. The code was perfect it was just one line that i had cut and paste to move a couple lines up and then placed it back again where it was. So it should not have caused the error - again uploading the original fixed the problem.

The hack was full or errors anyhow so i removed it and done the same thing my way.

OMG! How many times do you guys have to answer this question?!? IMO you should create a sticky thread.
