  • Posting and Count Issues

Here is my situation. I run www.rrorc.com/forums. Currently browsing and such is working correctly, but when you post the post goes through and a page cannot be displayed error appears. The count for replies and such never gets updated. You can then hit the back button and the post is there. This is very annoying.

I was convinced it was something on the database end but my provider tells me there is nothing wrong. However they proceeded to tell me:

"Well, the check and repair option through mysql section through cpanel are not functioning properly at this time"

So in the backend I can't get to the repair and optimize functions of vbulletin either. Would this cause our problems or is there something I should look at from my end?

Feel free to register and try posting.

A host can always run repair and optimize directly on their servers - they are the root users afterall.

Having said that, did you install any hacks, which version of vBulletin are you running and are you sure all the .php files are uploaded and are the version they should be?

Its version 3.0.0. Only real hacks aren't even really hacks. Just the photogallery and our color scheme. I did have them do the repair from root. It didn't resolve any issues for me. We have been running this setup for several months (january) so I am sure that all the files are the correct versions. I started working on Vbadvanced CMPS a couple months ago but haven't touched in in over a month and everything has been fine. That page is here:

      http://www.rrorc.com/cmps_index.php

I am not getting any error messages so it makes it hard to troubleshoot. I am nervous to upgrade to the newest version of vb while I am having these issues incase something doesn't work correctly.

Could you run suspect versions from the import & maint > diagnostic for me and see if any file reports as not being 3.0.0

Which 3.0.0 do you run? the gold or rc or gamma or a beta?

          No Suspect Files found.

Looking for which 3.0 it is. its not beta. Is there a file it says it in? in the config.php all it gives me is Downloaded: 05:49, Tue Mar 23rd 2004

I will keep looking. I know that sounds bad not to know but my other files are at home and I have too much on my plate to remember everything

vBulletin 3.0.0 'Gold' Released (at last)
            Mar 20th 2004

I suspect it is the 'gold' version.

Off -topic: It is adviced to upgrade though, because pre 3.0.3 has a security issue that hackers lately exploit constantly. : http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=108741

Nope, you tried uploading the original files in ascii transfer mode again?

what's the exact error on the page you get? is it a standard 404 "page cannot be found" page or perhaps "host not available" or something else?

Also, when you post try and keep an eye on the url and see if it's trying to request any weird/wrong address.

It takes really long to post (longer than normal) and is requesting http://www.rrorc.com/forums/newreply.php. Then it gives me a Cannot Finder Server Page.

I will try to upload the originals again ans see what happens. now

Still the same old story. You think it is database related? Wouldn't be the first time that our provider had db issues. About once a month there is an issue. Butusually the own up to it.

Do you not have access to any apache logs for your site? even the general error log in cPanel (if you're using it) might give you a better idea what the problem is, if you're getting an error page then something will be logged.

Doesn't sound database related, but did you try and run repair tables from the /admincp?

Can't do the repair from the admin cp. I'll check out the logs in the cpanel and see what is going on. be right back.
