Upgrading from 2.2.8

Hi, I've RTFM, the upgrade doc, searched support for "2.2.8" and "2.2.9" and now, some help would be great

- I need to upgrade 2 boards from 2.2.8 to 3.x
- I RTFM and downloaded the zip and was ready to go

However, I then spotted the sentence "To upgrade, to vBulletin 3 your existing installation must be running at least vBulletin 2.2.9 or higher" . There was no help / alternative / link to sub-2.2.9 info (that I could find) so here I am

Question:

What's my best easiest path from 2.2.8 to 2.2.9 before I go to 3.x ? (I have language edits and modified a lot of templates - though not php code AFAICR). Can you send me some directions, docs, URLS. Thanks

the upgrade script will upgrade your board first to vb2.2.9 then to the next version and then to the next version.

any edits to the templates will still remain, except that they won't be any use as vb3 and vb2 templates are pretty different. But you are in luck if it is language you are changing you can do that easily with the inbuilt language system.

I presume that the 'upgrade script' is the 'the latest vBulletin package' which I earlier downloaded.

I advice upgrading to 2.3.5 first by getting 2.3.5 and use the appropiate upgrade*.php files.
Then I advice to go from 2.3.5 to 3.0.1 using the upgrade.php from 3.0.1

First, make a backup 100% of your database and web files, so when things go wrong, you can revert to your current working version.

Yes, I made a backup of the database, just in case.

I took Pablo's advice ("the upgrade script will upgrade your board first to vb2.2.9"), so I:

1. Downloaded, unzipped and uploaded the new script
2. Started the install script, and it went through the motions.

The fact that I was only at 2.2.8 seemed not to make any difference and I can;t see any problems. Hope I have done the correct thing!!
