  • MySQL Dump. .sql file. Save as Binary or Ascii?

    When saving a mysqldump .sql file onto my pc, is it better to save it as a binary or ascii file?

    i alway use AUTO.. you mean via ftp ?

      Since a SQL Dump is in fact an ASCII file, you should use ASCII.

        Attachments are binary though, included in the SQL dump.

          No. The actual SQL backup file itself is ASCII and needs to be transferred as ASCII.

            Yes, I am refering to FTP.

            I'm not using the backup tool inside vb.

            I'm doing mysqldump via ssh. Then I use ftp to download the .sql files.

            So is it confirmed that I should download them as ascii?

                The binary attachments in the sql dump are escaped and represented as ASCII.
