    Refferals

    I'm totally lost of the referals system. I have the feature enabled but that is where my understanding ends.

    The online manual states
    Your users can find out their specific referal URL by visiting your vBulletin board FAQ page
    I cannot see anything here that tell the user "their specific referal URL"? A search yields this;
    The administrator may have enabled referrals, which allows you to be credited for any new users you invite to the forum.
    You gain referrals by promoting Excel Help & Excel VBA Help Forums at OzGrid.com using your unique referral link. The link you should use as your referral link is this:

    http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/index.php?referrerid=1

    Each time someone follows this link to Excel Help & Excel VBA Help Forums at OzGrid.com and registers as a new member, your referral count will be incremented by one. The number of referrals you have can be viewed in your profile.

    Your administrator will have more information on any prizes or rewards that may be given out for referrals. Please be courteous when promoting Excel Help & Excel VBA Help Forums at OzGrid.com by not spamming other web sites with your referral link just to gain referrals.
    But it again it tells the user nothing about how they would go about this?

    I would have thought there would simply be a link the user could click that would send an email (to an address of their choice) with their unique referral link in the body of the email. Or, a link to an online form that does the same.

    I would really like to use this feature to run some competitions etc. However, it seems to be a well kept secret.

    The idea of the referral link is you give the URL to a friend via email or another medium and they click it and when they sign up you get credited as their referrer I believe there are modifications available at vBulletin.org to allow a feature called "Refer a friend" whereby a user can fill in a form to refer someone to the forums

          Well after much searching again I still have nothing

          I can see the the "Email to Friend" will email a specific post to a user, but it's very well hidden, doesn't ask them to register and doesn't meet my needs.

          I have copied the sendtofriend template code to a new template (Sendtofriendcomp) thinking I could modify the code to use the text below in the email body;

          Hello, I Thought you might like to give yourself and/or your company 24/7 free MS Office Application support. Just follow the link below to register: http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/index.php?referrid=1

          Regards
          Dave Hawley
          Where "referrid=1" is the variable $bbuserinfo[userid] and "Dave Hawley" is $bbuserinfo[username] but I cannot even get the template to display (http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/Sendtofriendcomp.php doesn't work), let alone add text to the Form!

          How would I show this new template (Sendtofriendcomp) with the text below filled in the forum?

            Why don't you edit the approritate Phrases used in that template instead?

                  Hi Steve

                  Ultimately I want to continuously incease my forum regitration membership. See this page for details

                  You will note I have a mailto: link in the header that does much of want I want. However, the one BIG bit missing is the automatic filling in of the referral box when/if they register.
