  • How do I upgrade from Gamma to 3.0.1

without chaning ANY of my current images or templeates?

These smilies are just ugly Yes very

Please help me. What will be changed from the superb Gamma? I want the latest but not anything changed to the users.

Vbulletin, again thanks for a great software!

You upload the 3.0.1 files and run install/upgrade.php. You *will* have to revert many, if not all, of the templates. You do not have to upload the latest images.

Why do you have to revert the templates?

Because many of them have changed since vB Gamma (which is 6 versions behind.) Many of these changes are related to bug fixes and other improvements.

So how do I put back my template changes the easiest way after upgrading?

Looks like it wil lbe some work...

And how do I avoid missing any custom template I may have?

          Again thanks for fast replies!

            Upgrade won't modify custom templates.
But if you really want to be sure, export the .xml style and upgrade, then import it as a new style (as reference).

The new templates fix bugs, design bugs, typing errors, optimized javascript, etc. All kinds of things that are required to get the best, optimal and end up with an operational vBulletin.

                Just like I explained.

                beta/rc templates might use $forum_id
and the final code for 3.0.1 might use $forumid

Variables are updated, javascript has, code has, layout has - so has phrases etc.

beta/rc templates might have 'welcome back' in a template
and the final code for 3.0.1 might use $vbphrase[welcome_back] in a template.

So if I want my Gamma exact they way it was, how do I track all the changes that been made and how do I move them over to 3.04 in the best way possible?

I have alot of edited templates, but I dont always rememebr where I did the changes in the templates? How do I implemment these in the upgrade?

                  Regards Gustav

There's is no way to upgrade and keep everything exactly the way it was in Gamma. If you upgrade you will need to redot your customizations to get the full benefit of all improvements and fixes.

And you could upgrade to v3.0.3 without the Images, the download area has a versions without the images, and run version 3.0.3 with the old images like is done on one of the forums I'm involved with.

Another alternative is that, if you like the new images of v3.0.3 except the simlies, you can upgrade to v3.0.3 and then replace the smilies with the similies from the gamma version.

                      Regards,
                      Slappy
