  • Join Date, Location, Posts...??

    Ok, I upgraded to the latest edition of vB3 about a week ago. Before, on vb2, I had made a long time ago, a custom thing where when they register, or edit their profile, they can list the type of car that they drive, and their car type is listed with/under the Join Date, Location, Posts....

    Now that I have upgraded this feature is gone. Are peoples settings of their cars gone forever?

    How do I get this back?

    If I can't get this back, how do I make it?

    Thanks.

    This additional profile fields in version 2 were custom profile fields? Or was that done through a hack from vbulletin.org?

    If they were custom profile fields, please check in the admin control panel > custom profile fields> manager > to see if the custom profile field for the cars is still there or not. If it is, then all you have to do is add the $post[field] to the postbit (or postbit_legacy) template.

    If this was done through a hack, then the data is probably still in the database in the user field or whatever it was stored in, and you need to make a hack to use it for the version 2 hack won't work on version 3.

      I can't remember how it was done.

      Ok, when I go to > User Profile Fields > User Profile Field Manager, it lists "Car" as the 5th Profile Field type. So the custom profile field for the car is still there.

      I am not sure how to add "$post[field] to the postbit (or postbit_legacy) template."

      How do I do this?

      Thank you so much for the reply.

              Try $post[field5]

              or $post[fieldX], replacing X for the field id of the other profile fields.

                I have made a test on my own web site to show you step by step how I set up a custom profile field, how I enter information in it and how I update the style/template to use it. Hopefully it clears it up for you.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_01.gif
                Here I add a new custom profile field.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_02.gif
                Here I enter the details as you said you'd use.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_03.gif
                From the custom profile field manager, I find the field id, in my case, 11.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_04.gif
                I open the template postbit and find that code, because in my example, that is where I'd like to show the field.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_05.gif
                The selected text is what I insert in the already existing code, so the field shows.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_06.gif
                Then I goto the user control panel and edit my profile.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_07.gif
                As you can see, I can enter anything in the input field for the custom profile field. In my example, I set it to 15.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_08.gif
                I goto a post and notice the number 15 appears

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_09.gif
                It works! So now I go back to the postbit template, remove what I added and instead, I add a conditional, so it shows the content when something is set, and it shows n/a when nothing is entered. I use the code:

                <if condition="$post['field11'] == ''">
                <div>Denomination: N/A</div>
                <else />
                <div>Denomination: $post[field11]</div>
                </if>

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_10.gif
                Now when I view my post, it has changed to the new template code. Showing the content, because I previously set 15 to it.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_11.gif
                In the user control panel, profile, I remove everything from the denomination profile field.

                http://vBulletin.nl/screen_12.gif
                And then it says 'N/A' instead because no content was set.

                Hopefully this clears it up for you.

                Please let me know if you require any further assistance.
