  • Eliminate the Simple Search

    With a million and a half posts, our Board doesn't lend itself to the simple search very well. Is there a way to eliminate that and have the search button pull up the Advanced Search page instead?
    Thanks-
    Rich

    You can edit the navbar and replace the popup code it is linked to, to just directly goto advanced search.

      Thanks Floris.
      I'd assumed this would be as easy as changing the vbphrase [search] to [advanced_search] in the navbar template, but I'm obviously wrong. Can you give me a bit more detail?
      Thanks again-
      Rich

        find in the navbar template:
        Code:
          <if condition="$show['popups']">
           <if condition="$show['searchbuttons']">
        	<if condition="$show['member']">
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getnew" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[new_posts_nav]</a></td>
        	<else />
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getdaily" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[todays_posts]</a></td>
        	</if>
        	<td id="navbar_search" class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]" accesskey="4">$vbphrase[search]</a> <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("navbar_search"); </script></td>
           </if>
           <if condition="$bbuserinfo['userid']">
        	<td id="usercptools" class="vbmenu_control"><a href="#usercptools">$vbphrase[quick_links]</a> <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("usercptools"); </script></td>
           </if>
          <else />
           <if condition="$show['searchbuttons']">
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]" accesskey="4">$vbphrase[search]</a></td>
        	<if condition="$show['member']">
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getnew" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[new_posts_nav]</a></td>

           <if condition="$bbuserinfo['userid']">

           </if>
          </if>
        replace with
        Code:
           <if condition="$show['searchbuttons']">
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]" accesskey="4">$vbphrase[search]</a></td>
        	<if condition="$show['member']">
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getnew" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[new_posts_nav]</a></td>
        	<else />
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getdaily" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[todays_posts]</a></td>
        	</if>
           </if>
           <td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]do=markread">$vbphrase[mark_forums_read]</a></td>
           <if condition="$bbuserinfo['userid']">
        	<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="#" onclick="window.open('misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=buddylist&amp;focus=1','buddylist','statusbar=no,menubar=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=250,height=300'); return false;">$vbphrase[open_buddy_list]</a></td>
           </if>
        And save the navbar template.

          Thanks again Floris. That works, but it also changes the entire navbar, eliminating the Quicklinks button and replacing it with several of the quicklinks options.

          See the two images attached. The first is post-hack, the second is pre-hack.
