  • 2 domains - 1 forum

    Howdy,

I have two domains that point to my site. i was wondering if its possible to run the same vb on each domain, if so, how? (and is it legal?) currently cookies etc. don't work for the domain not configured.

If you park both domains on the same server / site then your vBulletin can be accessed from both domains.

Regarding your cookies... if you login from one domain then the cookie will only work on that domain. And vice versa. Cookies are domain specific.

Regarding the license agreement... yes, multiple domains are allowed in the case of parking additional domains on your site. Just as long as it's the same forum.

I have 2 domains to, and I wanted to ask, when you say "park" do you mean (lets say I have go daddy.com) should I park at godaddy.com and then set redirects to the forums?

How you park the domains depends on how you setup your server.

When I say park I mean like these two domains of mine:

        www.mscclan.com
        www.macsubculture.com

They both go to my forum.

          Question in regards to this.

I currently run 2 domains using the same forum:

          http://www.auswanderer-forum.com/forum
          http://www.usaexperten.com

The domains are on the same server and access the same database. They just use different styles.

Would that be covered under the one license as mentioned before?

          Please let me know.

Situations like this are a gray area. I will ask the others about this and get back to you.

I posted yet not had an answer, since is a staff member in this one seems fitting.

I run 2 domains with the exact same files , database, folders.

                http://sanguin.net/forums
                and
                http://darksanctum.net/forums/

Both (currently have licence on each incase , since I had a spare for now)

But as you can see both show totally dif forum ..... I was wondering if allowed of I have buy another licence soon for what I was going use the spare on.

In your case the two URLs appear as two completely different forums, so you need an active license for each domain.

Although they use the same exact database (not dif preffix) using the same exact files as each other?

Correct. The part of the license agreement in question here is:

vBulletin licence grants you the right to run one instance (a single installation) of the Software on one web server and one web site for each licence purchased. Each licence may power one instance of the Software on one domain. For each installed instance of the Software, a separate licence is required.
                      http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php

This part of the agreement is a gray area. For example, forums with two domains parked on them are OK, but in your case the purpose of your two domains is to create the appearance of two completely separate forums.

Yes , dif content and easy to manage.

The main reason I made this was trying to figure best way to share a database.

Although soon I wanted do one (that was just like sanguin.net that only showed the serious topics).

Someone said due to it was with in the rules of one set files and one data base it should be just one. Although I could see why vbulletin would not want such a hack released on vbulletin.org.

So this is grey? or just plain black lmao.

Its good to hear you allow 2 domains on one forum, however it still doens't work with the cookies.. and everything points towards my main domain as far as links go... example:

                          Main Domain: http://www.clockworkorangebbs.org
                          Backup: http://www.cobbs.ca

If you create an account and try to log in, you will login fine, but then it will just spit you back to the page and the login boxes are still there.

There's gotta be a way to make it so that if you access cobbs.ca it will stay cobbs.ca uniformly throughout the bbs.

If a user logs in from domain1 and then clicks on a link that takes them to domain2 then they will be logged out. Make sure your various site links are paths and not full URLs.
