  • Search Not Returning Proper Results

I'm having some issues with the search function on v3.0.0 that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

In a nutshell, the search function is not returning threads that _should_ be included. The search function does work....it just doesn't seem to work terribly well.

I've tried clearing out the search indexes and rebuilding (via ACP), but that hasn't helped the problem (at least, not that I can tell)

I've been through the boards here and haven't found anything that fixes the issue.

To show a few examples of the problem, go to http://www.herogames.com/forums

Here are a few terms to search on, along with the threads that I feel should be showing:

    Search On: "destroyer takofanes"

    Search Omitting: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11399
(title of thread is "Doctor Destroyer versus Takofanes")

    Search On: "atlatl"

    Search Omitting: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15541
(The word "Atlatl" is in the content of the thread)

    Search On: "deacon blues"

    Search Omitting: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14755
(The text "Deacon Blues" is in the content of the thread)

    Any ideas?

A bit more info that I should have included in the original post:

I originally thought that the problem may have been due to some of the "Message Searching Relevance Sorting Options" under the ACP....so I made the following edits (no luck with the edits, but I figured I'd list my current settings for comparison):

Search Relevance Multi-Word Match Bonus Score: 15
    Search Relevance Date Score: 15
Search Relevance Thread Title Score: 15
Search Relevance Post Title Score: 10
    Search Relevance Reply Score: 0
    Search Relevance Reply Function: none
    Search Relevance View Score: 0
    Search Relevance Views Function: none
    Search Relevance Rating Score: 0
    Search Relevance Rating Function: none

    Hope this helps!

You might try setting the Search Relevance options to their defaults. See the attached image.

Thanks, but that's where it was when this whole mess started....doesn't help.

For the sake of argument, I've got the settings back to their defaults while we work on this.

One other thing to check is this setting in the forum settings:

Index New Posts in Search Engine
(Setting this to 'No' will prevent anyone from being able to search in this forum)
Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)
Change CKEditor Colors to Match Style (for 4.1.4 and above)

            I forgot about that setting.

For the record, I can confirm that this thread isn't coming up in any search results. Check the Index New Posts in Search Engine setting for the forum that contains that thread.

Thank you both (again), but that is unfortunately not it. All forums have "Index New Posts in Search Engine" set to yes.

That's the odd thing in all of this.....that same forum that Jake confirmed the "unsearchable thread" in searches fine for other threads.

              Very confusing....

Have you installed any hacks (including portals) or added any code to the headinclude, header or phpinclude templates? If not, fill out a support ticket at:

                http://www.vbulletin.com/members/me...contactform.php

Be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP. If you have installed hacks or added code, then remove the hacks first then check and see if you still have this problem. If so, leave the default vB files in place and fill out the support request.
