  • How do i Shrink Large Avtars

    Hello All,

Many users on my board. VB 3.0 GOLD, have large avtars.
i have enabled users to use avatars located on remote servers.

Those large avtars make the board look crap.. while reading posts.
Check Attachments please for more details.

I retricted the avtar size display on vb 2.x this way.
Changing the template postbit_avatar to read
    Code:
    ?<img src="$avatarurl" border="0" alt="" width="100" height="100">?
    Instead of the original
    Code:
    ?<img src="$avatarurl" border="0" alt="">?
Can someone guide me. how to make those large avtars shrink in vb 3.0 gold too ?
What postbit to modify. and where can that be found.

Other thing is there a way to restrict the file sizes of avtars, located on REMOTE SERVES ?

    Thnx.
    Sandy...

There is no default option in vB to store avatars on remote servers, you should ask whoever made that hack for the help. Unless i missed a new feature between RC4 and Gold

      Hi Zachery,
      Check this attachment
      I am talking about this.
How i control the IMAGE DIMENSIONS. restricting all avtars to get shrinked to 100*100 pixels only.

Coz, many of those avtars are large enough. which ruin the way posts are read.

      Thnx.

That avatar gets added to your database, its not stored remotly that i am aware of, if you have enabled avatars check their usergroup permissions and set a resaonble max size.

          hi Zach.
All the usergroups are resticted to 100 * 100 pixels only.
          I just checked all.

But still they appear big :S
Some of those avtars are around 600 * 800 sizes.

By changing the code. i have wrote above. it fixed my problems in vb 2.x
I wonder what to and where to change in VB 3.0 gold.

Make sure Allow Image Size Checking Failure is on
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Server Settings and Optimization Options> Allow Image Size Checking Failure > Yes

Otherwise im not sure why that would be happening, i have not be able to reproduce what is happening to you on either of my live boards and one of my developement boards.

If you add height and width tags to your avatar image tag it will resize all avatars even ones under 100 px

AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Server Settings and Optimization Options> Allow Image Size Checking Failure > Yes
I turned it to Yes now..
But still those aVTARS. appear BIG.
Check this few more attachments again please.

I am confused.. There are more then 200 users having such big avtars.
I cant remove those avtars. coz, they are been used since long time.

You can manualy remove them, however im sure there is a query to remove them all, however im not aware of what it would be.

                  thnx for replying queries zak.
Members would not like having there avtars removed.

It worked in vb 2.x perfect.
but i am myself. amazed why is it not working on vb 3.0

Aint there some SOLUTION for my prob.
                  Coz on vb 2.x

I retricted the avtar size display on vb 2.x this way.
Changing the template postbit_avatar to read

IT still wont help the load problem however

                    find
                    HTML Code:
                    <img src="$avatarurl" alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" />
                    replace with
                    HTML Code:
                    <img src="$avatarurl" alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" height="100" width="100" />

The same method will work for vb3 as well. The code has changed some though. Look for this in the postbit template.

                      Code:
                      <img src="$avatarurl" alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" />
                      and apply the change

                      Code:
                      <img src="$avatarurl" alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" width="100" height="100" />
Be sure and apply the changes to the postbit you are using (legacy or new)

You'll have to apply it to each template where the avatars are used. MEMBERINFO etc.

The easiest & quickest way to do it is with Find and Replace.

                              hi svtblacklight01,

                              <img src="$avatarurl" alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" />

i search the entire system for that string.
just found 2. and replaced them

Avtars in posts got shrinked. not in there profiles. etc.
