are there plans to implement a linear display order when splitting threads (or partially deleting them)?

i have run into this mess many times, and i can't imagine anyone would prefer threaded over linear when doing these processes.

I find the new threaded mode for splitting threads very confusing and annoying at the same time. The guy who implemented this should be fired )) j/k

Can someone show us how to go back to linear listing of thread posts?

Thanks, tubedogg. I now see how it works.
Maybe it is better that split thread shoul display the posts like I have selected in view tread options. I mean, If I use linear mode and i choose to split a threah, the page should diplay in linear.
Anyway, it is good to know...

Thanks tubedogg for explaining that mess to us. I sort of understand it and tried to verify what you said actually works, from what I can tell it does not display in any order linear or threaded.

You know Linear mode is what most likely just about everyone is using. I personally cannot stand threaded mode.

I suggest that the split thread screen be put into Linear mode. Also include the post number so we can simply write down the few posts we want to split out and be done with it.

    Thank you for your time.

The posts are all there, and they are in order, but they are in *thread* order, not linear order.

Thread order means that a post in reply to another post is shown right below that post. Linear order means posts are shown in date order, regardless of what post is replying to what post. You are most likely viewing this thread right now in linear order - with all posts in a straight line down the page, like this:
    Post 1
    Post 2
    Post 3
    Post 4
Threaded order would show posts in relation to one another. For example:
    Post 1
    - Post 2
    - - Post 4
    - Post 3
In this example, Posts 2 and 3 are in reply to Post 1. Post 4 is in reply to Post 2. The dash symbols indicate indenting.

You can see a real world example of threaded order by simply choosing "Threaded" from the Display Modes drop-down menu at the top of a thread page. For short threads like this, it may appear like this, because each of us is replying to the post right before ours:
    Post 1
    - Post 2
    - - Post 3
    - - - Post 4
But for more complex, longer threads, you will see a lot more variation.

Anyway, this is the way the posts are shown on the Split Thread screen. They are all there, but if you are used to viewing a thread in Linear view, it may take you a bit to find what you are looking for.

I think the posts are all there but they are in a random order, it is very confusing.

I hope future improvements will make the posts be put into order and the post number will be displayed.

Another feature requested is to allow the views to be set to whatever the admin wants. Right now you have to use phpmyadmin to adjust the views.
