Why fix something if it isn't broke?

I'm not saying redo everything to change <br> to <br /> (though you could use any decent text editor to do a mass-change across files) but your new coding should be to the current standards. Laziness is not an excuse.

The keys are right there but I really don't see why I should use <br /> over <br>. Why add two extra keystrokes to it? As nebby said: Why fix something if it isn't broke?

according to XHTML standards it is broke, lets say FB wanted to do everything like IE cuz their lazy, would we like that? what if linux users got "lazy" and didnt care and didnt release updates?

im sure you all would be pissed :P

There is a difference between software releases and sucky standards.

"Sucky" standards or not, they are standards, and you're supposed to code to them to ensure your stuff looks as uniform as possible across browsers. It really is not that hard to type <br /> instead of <br>, it just takes some getting used to doing it. And while you're doing it, <img> and <input> tags should be done the same way - any tag which does not have a corresponding closing tag should.

                  But why?

                  why change <br> to <br />?

                  what's the reasoning for it?

becase ALL tags must have a start and an end in XHTML i belive (reasoning wise)

as most tags have <table></table> unclosed tags must be closed too there is no <br></br> so in XHTML we close the tag <br />

Ah, now i see, and it makes slight sense.

It still wont change the way i write it, but still.
