  • Hack Attempt?

    Running vB 2.3.0
    PHP: 4.3.2
    MySQL: 4.0.13

We run a very, very small message board. Typically we don't have more than 4-6 people on at once, and our community is around 50 members.

Recently I had over 30 guests all with the same first 3 IP digits trying to access my board for a period of ~48 hours. When looking over the userlist, it said they were doing all kinds of things -- searching, viewing posts, reporting posts, registering (they never did), retrieving password, etc.

I finally caught on and banned the entire IP range from the webserver and the forum itself. Currently the forum is shut down and I've also disallowed guests from viewing posts.

My question is, was this some kind of hack attempt? Can vB even be hacked in this regard?

If so, was any possible damage done *before* I finally shut that IP range out? Should our members be worried about their passwords being stolen? Anything like that?
