  • Mysql db overhead with avatars

If I upload avatars directly onto the sever and disallow users to upload custom avatars will I reduce the overheard mysql db ?

In general I’m look for good advise on how best to handle avatars before I get going so that I don’t then have to go and take something way from users after the fact………..

Don't allow avatars at all. That's the best way. But if you want to optimize, just use the avatars you currently have.

Allowing 'custom' avatars stores the avatar in the database. If you only allow users to select an avatar from your avatar directory, your database will not increase as gallery avatars are not stored via MySQL.
