  • Editing header template adds extra HTML code???

    OK, I've got to be doing something stupid...
    I'm running VBulletin 2.3.0 on a Redhat Linux box.

    I've been trying to add an additional button in the header template. No big deal...
    The problem is that after I edit the header template (Both in the Style and Template sections) I get about half of the code in the header template thrown back in towards the end of the code... i.e.

    Code:
     <!-- logo and buttons -->
    <center>
    <table border="0" width="{tablewidth}" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
    <td valign="top" align="left" background="{imagesfolder}/menu_background.gif"><a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{titleimage}" border="0" alt="$bbtitle"></a></td>
    <td valign="bottom" align="right" nowrap background="{imagesfolder}/menu_background.gif">
    <!-- toplinks -->
    <a href="usercp.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_profile.gif" alt="Here you can view your subscribed threads, work with private messages and edit your profile and preferences" border="0"></a>
    <a href="register.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=signup"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_register.gif" alt="Registration is free!" border="0"></a>

    Thanks,

      It does not seem to, I've messed with tthe footer, and some templates in the Who's Online area.

      Upon further experimentation, I've found that the extra text always seems to start with "an view your subscribed threads, work with private messages and edit your profile..."
      but it is missing the 'c' in 'can view...' weird!

      And it always seems to be inserted into the
      <!-- <a href="member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"> line, but not always in exactly the same place....

      The other interesting thing is that if I click on Save at the bottom of the Style page, say 3 times... I get 3 times the additional text... 5 times, 5 times additional text...etc...

      Any ideas?

        I have this exact same problem using vb2.3. I'm currently modifying my templates and this problem is really messing things up for me.

        Does anybody know what is causing this and how to fix it??

          What browser are you using? Have you tried a different browser?

            That did it!!!

            I was using Netscape 4.76 on my Win2K box as my primary browser... an could duplicate the problem all day long,

            But when I use Konqueror 3.1-12 on my RH Linux box... no problem...

            Guess it just goes to show ya...

            Thanks for all the help...

              I was using IE6 and just tried Mozilla 1.0 and the same thing happened.

              I honestly don't know what the heck is causing this! VB is taking chunks of my header code and re-pasting it several times within my header. I have 9 navigation buttons but after I submit the changes to the header code there are about 17 buttons with the order all jumbled up.

              Why on earth this is happening I don't know.....

                I really don't know but this has to be something on your computer causing this. Sorry.

                  Unfortunately, I have to agree... I tried this with both Netscape and IE 5.50, and I got the adding of text to the header.

                  Konqueror, however, does not cause the problem...

                  I suspect it has something with the way that the browser treats linefeeds... but I'm not sure where to go from there,

                      Ok I've tried modifying the header in various different browsers (IE6, mozilla, opera) on various computers with different operating systems (XP & ME). Exact same problem every single time

                      I'm using my own local apache server as a testing platform and when I tested changing the header on my online live server it worked fine. So does that mean there is a setting in apache that is causing this problem on my local machine?

                      I don't really know anything about apache so does anybody here know?

                        This same problem was driving me nuts. I finally solved it by changing the Apache configuration of PHP in httpd.conf file. Since handling of .PHP extensions and .PHP4 extensions is handled elsewhere, the following line in httpd.conf was causing these problems. I got the hint from another thread on vBulletin forums.

                        Code:
                        AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
                        I changed the above line to the following and the templates work fine now after editing. I guess we can even remove the line below if you are not using PHP3.

                        Code:
                        AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3

                          Thanks,

                          That seemed to help out my other problem as well, with Binary Attachements.
