  • Wrong or Mis-matched passwords?

    Hi,

I recently upgraded from the VB 2.3 release candidate to the final version. Ever since, no one has been able to register in my forum as it tells them the data in the passwords field do not match. I tried it and I know it matches. I cannot register either. I get this:

"The two passwords that you typed do not match. Please press the back button, correct the error and try again."

When I log out, I can't log back in through the user interface. I can only log in through the VB CP. When I use the same Admin username/password combo in the main interface, it says "Wrong Password. Please press the back button, enter the correct password and try again. Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Click here!". I do know my own Admin password.

I don't run ANY hack - never did.

    My shared server configuration:

    Operating system: Linux
    Linux kernel version: 2.4.20-grsec
    Apache version: 1.3.27 (Unix)
    PERL version: 5.006001
    PHP version: PHP/4.3.1
    MySQL version: 3.23.56
    Path to Perl: /usr/bin/perl
    Path to sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail

I ran searches and I noticed others have had this problem, but no one seems to be returning here to post whatever they did to fix the problem. Yes, I have manually deleted cookies. Can someone please point me to a posting or in the direction I should look?

SECONDLY, I read hereabouts that PHP files should be uplaoded in ASCII. Yet, elsewhere, I read that they should be Binary. Can someone who knows better please tell me how PHP files should be uploaded via FTP (I run Winzip 8.1)? I did try uploading the register.php as ASCII and it made no difference.

    Thank you.

Reupload all the original vB 2.3.0 php files as ASCII. Make sure you overwrite the ones on the server. If you haven't done so you will also need to run upgrade23.php. And finally, you may need to revert your Registration templates back to original.

Thank you for your prompt response, Steve. I will do as you have suggested immediately.

Quick clarification please: I did NOT make any modifcation to the Registration template. Why do you think I should revert it to "the original"? And which is the original?

      Appreciate it.

The registration template has changed. If you didn't upload vbulletin.style from 2.3.0 and run upgrade23.php, this could be the cause of your problem.

Unfortunately, Steve, that did not make any difference. I tried all your suggestions above. I'm just going to awitch the forum off until you or someone helps me figure this out.

Would you have an idea how I can downgrade to my working 2.2.9? Or did the upgrade modify MySQL or something irreversible to tyros like me?

          Appreciate your help.

You can't downgrade if you've run upgrade23.php. Fill out a support ticket at:

Be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP.

This issue has been resolved by the support desk. Turns out the "ob_start(); ob_end_clean();" calls in my phpinclude template was the culprit. I used that call after researching it on this forum. Maybe I didn't use it properly, but it worked perfectly including some Photopost images into my VB. I can't use that function anymore now.

Well, VB is fine and that is all that matters. Thank you Steve and co.

What do you mean 'call'? What exactly did you do to fix this???

He had entered that code in phpinclude and this was the cause of the problem.

You can't access your own Admin CP? What happens when you try? How did you setup your forums then?

I did a fresh install of vBulletin (no upgrades, or anything like that... BRAND NEW!!!), just like it told me to (ran the install script). I had no errors, or anything. I then created my admin account, once again... with 0 errors. When I tried to login as Admin, I got this error...

Wrong Password. Please press the back button, enter the correct password and try again. Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Click here!

I know the password is correct. I then went and checked my user level (in my profile, and I wasn't set as an administrator). I also ran getadmin.php, with no luck. And when I try to register as a new user, I get the

The two passwords that you typed do not match. Please press the back button, correct the error and try again.

error. I really have no idea what I did wrong, and just want to get this thing setup
