Recently i had a spamming bot on the forum, i thought oh its just some guy spamming, then another one came with porn adverts, clearly people with porn sites have no worries about anyone else but themselves, its costing my hosts money with bandwidth i guess too. This is a nightmare, how am i ever going to get rid of them and also the most online users is broke forever now

Now i came online to find 1110 guests online, our most before was 8!!!! we are a smallish community thats been running for about 2 years, ive never had this problem before, ive just updated the boards to the current version, what on earth can i do??????

Similar issue here. Out of the blue after my updated to the current version we started to get spammed with crap. I haven't researched this much yet, since it just started happening yesterday.

    Any clues?

In the meantime I think I'm going to make the posts to be moderated...

      Did you:

      1) Check to make sure your PHP is compiled with GD support? (You can check for this in your phpinfo.php output.)

      2) Set the correct GD version in tthe Admin CP?

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> General Settings -> GD Version

      3) Enable the Image Verification option?

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User and registration options -> Image verification -> Yes

      4) Revert your registeradult template back to original? Make sure it contains:

      $imageregbit

      ...right above:

      $customfields_required

      5) Upload the latest regimage.php to your forums directory?

recently having a spate of porn site spam bots through.. it's very tedious.

Yes. I have done all those things and just checked again. Also i had previously checked to see if the image verfication works and it does. The bots has all vanished this morning, i didnt do anything else so i guess they just went, i hope they wont be back and im a little annoyed at the trouble its caused, porn people seem to stoop too new lows, not everyone on our forum will be 16 and shouldnt be seeing porno links, i think its really disgraceful and im pretty disgusted at them, whoever they are.

Also my online user count just looks stupid now, is there anyway to alter it manually ?

            Hi there...

I have Vbulletin V.2.2.9 with some hacks, and recently the forum has been attacked.... again

i attached a file showing the attack message in another forum.

The User MartL registered, and posted 100 messages in all foruns.

After some investigation i found that this user started to attack after a post of a normal user, in this casa Flyer.
This User (Flyer) posted a normal message in 2 different boards and the user Martl started the attack. I think that it started by the Flyer computer as a Virus..

Do you guys have any info on this ???

Again: it happened in 2 different boards but always after the same user.

yeh we had pinky18 and gillbill2002, although the remove all posts works fine for me, hopefully the bots wont come back, its the hanging online as guests which is the problem, 1114 guests all as bots is annoying

as for the original problem, would closing the board for awhile cause the bots to go away?

I dunno why people keep suggesting this guy turn on GD and all this other stuff about user registration.

                          He had 1,110 GUESTS.

I made a suggestion in the vB3.1 Suggestions thread about vB getting some automatic throttling features.

These include turning off GZIP, Signatures, Avatars, View Counters, Guest Access, etc. depending on the # of users browsing.

Hopefully these "throttling" features will be considered.
