  • View New Posts Problem STILL unsolved!

I don't know why, but for some reasons my NEW Posts thing does not work. Well it shows me all new posts when I visit the forum on the next day for example.
But when I click on Show all new Posts since my last visit it always says no matches found. When I get linked to the forumhome then, there are also no more new Posts. Same is when I do a reply. All "new Posts" which I haven't read yet are old ones now. Any suggestions? how do i change the days so that the new posts remain longer.....?

before anyone decides to pound on me about this, i did do a search and there are many posts asking this question about the "view new post" problem, yet no one has answered.

and yes ive gone to vb.org to search for answers and they sent me here.....This is not any type of hack, this is the view new posts feature that comes with vb....

    thanks

What is your cookie timeout set to?

Admin CP -> Options -> vBulletin Options -> [User and registration options] -> Timeout for Cookie

I do remember someone saying something about editing the search.php and/or the template in the forumhome_newposts template....

      from changing this <a href="search.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=getdaily">

to something something like, <a href="search.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=getdaily3days..">...ect ect....but i cant find that thread anywhere..i have an idea what has to be done to let the posts remain longer but i cant remember how to do it..need memory refreshed

Are you logged in the whole time? To make sure this isn't a login problem (cookies, domains, etc), try putting this variable at the top of your header template:

        $bbuserinfo[username]

The username of the logged in user will now show up at the top of every forum page. Click through a few links like you would normally do to duplicate this problem, and make sure the username shown at the top always says your name and not Unregistered.

Another possible cause is server time issues. If your server time is jumping around for some reason, that will mess up the forum sessions which will mess up the unread post markers.

This is the getdaily link you are talking about - http://www.yoursite.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=getdaily&days=X

Use any number of days you want. This is an easy way to see all posts within the last X amount of days.

Oh, you know you are having server time issues if new posts are being inserted out of order... like if a new post gets inserted before an older post.

OK, so i am having a problem just like this...

When a member comes onto my forums and if they have not been on for a while (maybe a day), they click to view the new posts and it tells them no matches found.

When they go back its like they were logged out and logged back in, there are no new posts... I am not sure whats going on... I did not change any of my code within the time that this started to happen...

My host did install a bad version of gzip and has since removed it, but i am not sure if this problem has come up at the same time gzip was uninstalled.

Are the two related? how can i fix this problem? Please help...

If you don't load a forum page within the session timeout, then the next time you load a forum page you will start a new session and all previously unread posts will be marked as read.

My last post was a possible explanation for the problem you are having.

When the new posts get reset, have you loaded a page within 15 minutes (900 seconds) to keep the session active? If you haven't then the new posts will be reset which is normal behavior.

All of this happens within like 30 sec. What i mean by that is, if you visit the site for the 1st time that day, lets say right when you wake up, and within 15 sec you click on the new posts, or however long it takes you (alot less then 15 min) you get this problem. It returns back to you, that there was nothing found by the search...

                              Xt,

the only way to get the problem fixed if your having that much trouble trying to get it going yourself, is to grant jakeman or anyone else you trust from here, admin access to the admincp and have them take a look. its more than likely something small that your missing..over all it will get fixed. ask the members to be patient abit longer..best of luck friend!
