  • Email Subscription Notifications Not Sending

I recently moved my vB forums over to a new web server. Everything went smoothly and everything works fine except that now vB won't send out email notifications to people who subscribe to threads and forums. It worked on the old server, but won't work now.

It can't be related to the web server and it's PHP configuration because all other e-mails get generated and sent correctly. I used the mailtest.php to multiple e-mail addesses and all worked. I created a new user on my forum and received the confirmation notice. I then subscribed to a thread and there were 9 new responses by different users. I did not receive one notification. Other users have not received notifications either.

What could the problem be here? I'm at a loss right now, and many users were taking advantage of this feature heavily.

If some emails work and others don't, then it's a server issue. This assumes of course that you have not installed any hacks.

If you have installed hacks, remove them and reupload the original vB files.

I've installed hacks, but it was working on my old server. All I did was copy the databse over to the new server, and upload the exact files that were on the old server over to the new server. Nothing changed and everything works fine except for email notifications.

Regarding DNS issues, how would that affect mail? If AOL users (and anyone else for that matter) receive all the other emails, why would the subscription emails just stop working?

I'll go through and uninstall the hacks, but I really don't think that is the problem.

Thanks for the replies, if you have any other comments or ideas regarding this topic please let me know!!!

            Experiencing same thing...

I'm experiencing the exact same type of symptoms, when I subscribe to a thread or a forum, I get no email. But if I make myself the moderator on that forum, I receive the emails. This means it must be in the code path that occurs when you hit reply.

Which specific hacks have you installed? (perhaps there's a common thread there) I've only recently installed the delayed view hack for showthreads.php.

Also of note: while in my control panel it says I'm subscribed to that test forum, it also says that there's no new threads for that subscribed forum.

I think the only hacks I've installed are the Welcome Panel, quick reply hack, stars hack, and vbquiz.

I still have this problem now. The people on my forum have learned to deal with it for the time being. I've almost forgot about this myself since I'm just waiting for vb3 to be released.
