  • Moving to a new server, question about dump.sql file

    After looking at:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/manual/movingservers.html

I now have a 75MB dump.sql file. After I run the command listed on that page (mysql -u USERNAME -p newdbname < /path/to/dump.sql ) on the new server will that restore ALL of VB's php files and my graphics files, etc. or just the database? I mean, will I have to reinstall VB on the new server first?

The .sql is only a backup of the db.
You need to install the .php etc yourself.

Does it make a difference "when" you install vB on the new server - before or after the installation of the db?

Yes. Installing vB creates / overwrites your db.
        Setp 1) Install vB
        Step 2) Restore db
        Step 3) Upgrade vB (optional)

Import the sql dump, then copy all your vB files to the new server
