I think most of us use the replacement thingy for that...
e.g. replace 'osama.com' with '*****.com'

If I remember correctly, there is one disadvantage to the censored words method. You cannot undo banned urls in existing threads / posts.

I've been using the censored words list to ban and unban URLs since late last year ... maybe you wanna try it yourself to see if it's just me?
