You need to upgrade your version of vBulletin to 2.2.9 or 2.3.0

If you are already running one of those versions, let me know.

I hadn't upgraded because a friend had installed some hacks for me and I didn't feel comfortable doing them myself. Would upgrading correct this problem? Thanks.

I got this today while trying to edit someone's signature:

I'd like to learn how to deal with these problems by learning more about how it works. Can anyone refer me to a document/thread which discusses database errors for BEGINNERS?
