    Registration Problems!

    Hi all,

I recently moved my forum to a new host and since then I can't recall any new registrations posting anything! I've received one or 2 emails saying they haven't received an email validation link. So I tried signing up my self and it worked fine...

But I also checked my admin and everyone that has registered since moving to my new host is still awaiting email validation! I have resent them the emails to try and resolve this. What's wrong?

Can someone please take a minute to sign up and see if it all goes ok!?

    Many thanks for any help

    Kind Regards,
    Kerry

In fact, I've tried emailing myself from the control panel and this doesn't work!

From the extra's folder, upload mailtest.php to your server and run it, if it gives no errors, but you still do not receive emails, contact your hosting provider. Their mail server might need a reset or something.

I tried mailtest and there were no errors but I didn't receive the email (

Any ideas what this could be? I've setup a free email service with everyone.net and I'm pointing my domain to the ip of my webspace. Maybe I also have to point my domain to the mail server or something?

Sounds like a server issue. You will need to view the mail logs on the server to see what happened to those emails. Once vB sends it to PHP it's in the hands of the server. If you are on a shared server you may need to ask your host to look through the logs for you.

For what it's worth I get a lot of bounced emails from people who's mail boxes are full, 'unavailabl
e' or over quota. This is a particular problem with hotmail and yahoo accounts. Unless you are on a dedicated server and can set where these bounce messages go, you will never see them. The mail logs will have a record of these though.

                    Steve,

                    Here's what tech support sent:

                    Kerry,
I have tested the script and it works some of the time and not others, without looking at the script itself, I would say that this is because it sets the To address and the From address as the same. Our mail system blocks any mail which is not sent eithere to or from an address hosted by us, therefore if you put the address as a hotmail one, the script will try to send both to and from that hotmail address and our servers will block it. Change the script to send from an address hosted by us, then it can send to any address and you should find that it works. When I say hosted by us, just add the address into the control panel so that the system thinks that the email is hosted by us and it should work fine.

Where should I change this email address in the control panel? I've tried changing the one in general options under webmaster email but this hasn't helped

The webmaster's email is the correct place to set this. Did you set this address to one that is hosted by your web host?

Then your host's information is icorrect. Tell them you *are* using an email address hosted by them. Otherwise have them provide you with the headers showing this is not the case.

Had a word with tech support and they said that I should set the smtp server in the script to smtp.fasthosts.co.uk, where do I change this? Is there any other settings that I should change that would effect email functioning correctly?
