  • Can't log in after transfer

We just recently transferred our boards and and our database and somehow, everytime we try to log on we keep getting sent back to the log-in page. According to an installation of 2.2.9 we have in another folder, the privatemessages table is broken (Error 127), but why should this affect the log-in of 2.2.4?

How did you transfer the database? Is the db the same vB version as the files you are running? What settings dod you have for 'Cookie Domain' and 'Path to save cookies'?

Yes, the version of the db is the same as that of the current vb. The database was transferred as table files rather than as a dump. Repairs were conducted before restarting mysqld.

      Path to save cookies: /
      Cookie domain: [blank]

Strange, but the site can be accessed without any trouble through 2.2.9. No longer getting Error 127 after running the repairs. We'd rather run with 2.2.4 for the meantime since we haven't ported the hacks onto 2.2.9.

Addendum: Are the databases backwards-compatible? What I mean is, if the tables have been updated for 2.2.9 shouldnt they work with 2.2.4 considering no fields have been removed? Even clicking on the "register" link takes you to the log-in page.

No, a 2.2.9 database will not work with 2.2.4 files. You need to be running the same version database and files.

Okay, I re-installed a copy of our older 2.2.4 database and still we're getting the same error. What could be causing this?

The most likely cause is that the database is bad. Either the backup was faulty or the restoration was.
