  • Stupid Users...

    I must get this about once a day:

    ----------------------------
    Hi Wayne:
    I can't seem to respond to a posting without getting the message below:
    vBulletin Message
    You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of
    several reasons:
    You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are
    you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative
    features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum
    Rules.
    If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account,
    or it may be awaiting activation.
    Logged in user: herbg [logout]
    Seems like I've been locked out. Can you restore my profile so that I can
    reply to postings on the board again?
    Thanks,
    -----------------------------

    It's from stupid people who change their email address, or register, and don't realize that they need to confirm their email address.

    My suggestion is to make the registration and email confirmation process explained INCREDIBLY CLEAR so that us Admins aren't overwhelmed by these users who either don't read, or who can barely find the mouse...

    I'm just frustrated because I get 400 emails a day, and I don't need any more...

    Other than that I love vB!

    They're working on it right now.

        I get these all the time. I would just like to second the vote for a link that says "Click here to resend your activation email" or something.

          Geez, this was a simple fix. For some reason the code to do this already exists in a template, but there is no link to the template (that I can find.) Now your users can send their own "activation code email" without your intervention!

          From the admin, templates, edit the "error_nopermission_loggedin" template and add this code to it, just below the end of the Ordered List "</ol>" :

          Code:
          <!-- NEW CODE -->
          <p align="Center">
          <form action="register.php" method="post">
          <input type="hidden" name="action" value="emailcode">
          <input type="hidden" name="s" value="$session[sessionhash]">
          To request for your activation code to be sent to you by<br>
          email, please enter your registered email address in the <br>
          box below then submit the form.<br>
          <br><b>Your Email Address: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
          <input type="text" class="bginput" name="email" size="35" maxlength="90"></b><br>
          <br>
          <input type="hidden" name="url" value="$url">
          <input type="submit" class="bginput" name="Submit" VALUE="Request Activation Code Now">
          </form>
          </p>
          <!-- NEW CODE END--->

          That's it! It works fine for me, good luck!

            I actually modified the template to have the message indicated in BIG RED LETTERS that says you have to check your email. This seems to have helped - people just don't really read...
