You won't lose your members or data when upgrading. However you will lose any hacks to the php files.

    The upgrade instructions are here:

    http://www.vbulletin.com.members/upgrade.html

It's a good idea to backup your forums prior to upgrading. See Step One here for the recommended backup procedure:

Does your host give you Telnet/SSH access? If not, ask them to do a backup for you then have them email it to you.

You are correct. You might want to keep it for a day or two just in case you find a problem you didn't see the day before.

No release date yet. We hope to have something sometime in the first quarter of 2003.

In addition to uploading the 2.2.9 files, you need to run the appropriate upgrade scripts. The upgrade instructions are here:

No need to upload config.php or any of the files in the 'extras' and images' folders. You need to upload everything else though.

Although there should be no problems if you follow the instructions, it's best to make a backup of the database prior to running the upgrade scripts.

It never hurts to backup everything, but in the case of upgrading the most important thing to backup is the datase.
