the chmod for ocnfig.php is 644 i dont want other users to do cat ~mylogin/www/vb/admin/config.php and read it whats the best way todo this? chmoding it to 640 will not let user running apache to read my config.php and as a user i cant do chown nobody or apache config.php!!

any solutuon other than using ZEND to encrypt it?

You could chmod the directory, that way apache can enter it, but no other user on the system.
Sorry, but a 'good' system doesn't even let other users go out of their homedir. If I was you I'd complain to the hosting company about this.

its not possible to chmod a dir where only apache can enterit as normal user requires root access todo that.

      any other option?

        chmod doesn't require root priveledges.
        try setting it to 711
