You might want to consider analysing your searchindex and word tables to see what unecessary words you could add to admin/badwords.php to reduce the size of your search index.

Do a search on these forums for specific queries and techniques you can use. You'd be surprised what useless stuff is in there, especially involving bbcode and contractions that forget to use an apostrophe.

    Hope this helps,
    Paul

not directly. but you can decrease the size of the index by increasing the minimum search word length, decreasing the maximum search word length, and then reindexing.

Admin CP -> Options -> vBulletin Options -> [Search Options]

that would make it so your users can't search. if you don't need the search feature then go ahead.

you can turn off the search feature in your Admin CP -> Options -> vBulletin Options -> [Search Options] -> Enable searches? -> No

you can empty your searchindex in your Admin CP -> Import & Maintenance -> Update Counters -> If you are reindexing, you may want to empty the indexes. Click Here to do so!

If you empty that table your search won't work anymore...

    Question...

I would like to clean out my database a little bit, is it safe to clean out the "searchindex" table? I have about 10MB of data on it, and it would sure help to lose that 10MB.

    anyone?
