  • Install problem step 4

    I'm having a problem with the installation of vbulletin at step #4. When the install script reaches step four, it says:

    "Creating table access"

    Then three blank lines, then the following messages:

    "There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
    Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.

    An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

    We apologise for any inconvenience."

    No matter how many times I mash the refresh button, I get the same message. Everything appears to be correct in the script up to this point. The script found and connected to the database but it's having troubles setting up the tables and whatnot. What's wrong?

    We need to see the entire error message. Either post the contents of the email you received, or right-click on the error page and go to View/Source. Then cut-n-paste the error message here.

      Ok, I did what you said and I see a problem already, but here is the source code from the error page at step #4. I think I have spotted the main problem. In the config.php file, the host is set to "dbase.digitronicweb.com", the user is set to "rateseed", and this is all correct and matches the instructions from my hosting company exactly.

      However, the install script has changed the user name to "[email protected]". I'm not sure why it's doing this, but i'm willing to bet that it's where the problem is.

      Anyway, here's the code:

      <html>

      if (confirm("You have chosen to clear your ENTIRE MySQL database.\nvBulletin and Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. can hold no responsibility\nfor any loss of data incurred as a result of performing this action.\n\nDo you agree to these terms?")) {
      return true;
      } else {
      return false;
      }
      } else {

        mysql error: Access denied for user: '[email protected]' to database 'rateseedsdb'
        First thing is to change the $servername variable back to 'localhost'. If you still have a problem, then this means either:

        1. One or more of the following is wrong in your config.php file:

        $dbusername
        $dbpassword
        $dbname

        If you are unsure of what the appropriate values are then you will need to ask your web host.

        2. Or that this db user is not assigned to that database or does not have permission to access MySQL to create a database. You may need to first manually create the database and assign the db user to it. Since each web host is different, if you do not know how to do this then contact your web host for help.

          I'll try changing the name back to localhost, please re-read the first couple of paragraphs in my previous message as I revised them. I'll try your suggested fix and see how that goes. All of the other variables match the install instructions from my hosting company and I can directly access the MySQL database, so I know that it's there and set up, but the database is completely blank. Let me see how the fix goes. Thanks!

            Well, changing the variable back to 'localhost' didn't work.
            Here's the error that i'm getting now:

            mysql error: Access denied for user: '[email protected]' to database 'rateseedsdb'

            mysql error number: 1044

            The accessing instructions from my hosting company says to set the host name to:'dbase.digitronicweb.com'

            When I do that and run the script, it returns the same error, but the variable in the error message has changed from dbase.digitronicweb.com to 'masis.digitronicweb.com'

            Why is it doing that?
