    You need to enter the IP address not the resolved name. I teried to look it up but there's no IP for that name:

    bash:~/txt$ host carbondale.il.us.uu.net
    Host carbondale.il.us.uu.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

            i don't ban people... we have a very tight community and we "intimidate" an offender... they usualy come back in a few days under a different login and become part of the community - me and the moderators are the only ones who really know about this... it's a thing i see happening alot lately... instead of deleting their posts i just emberas them about those posts. works like a charm... but not with that one...

              I ban spammers immediately, especially when they blantly ignore the bold font in the description of the ADVERTISING forum . When I ban via IP I first ban via the admin CP, and if they really start to annoy me, a .htaccess file.

              When banning an existing user you might want to use the mod CP; this updates their status and dumps them in the banned usergroup in one click.

                  If I remember...make a file named .htaccess (include the .!) with these contents
                  Code:
                  <Limit GET,POST>
                  Order allow,deny
                  Allow from all
                  Deny from IP
                  </Limit>
