  • Verifying users

    Hi,

I would like to write an external script that allows users to enter a page when they enter their vbulletin username, vbulletin password, and another password. Hence I would like to run a query to select all records in the user tables where username = username and password = password and see if it's 1 or 0. But I noticed that the passwords are encoded somehow. Is there a way (a function or something) to decode these passwords or translate normal text to this code so I may do what is required?

Alernatively I could use cookies and have the users login in vbulletin and return to this page and provide the second password. Please advise which is easier and how I would go about doing this.

    TIA

    Jax.

Passwords in vBulletin have been encypted to MD5 (which cannot be reversed) since version 2.2.0.

For more info on this, you should do a search.

Additionally, all hacking questions should be posted over at http://vbulletin.org

Yes but if my password is encrypted using MD5 it's actually 'bob' and someone enters bob and I encrypt bob using MD5 then compare the two string I can check if the password is correct.

What exactly is MD5? Is it a function that I can use in my php script?

(I see the thread with the same topic but it ends with "Please do not provide more tech support until user registers nick for support")

        http://www.spoono.com/tutorials/php/encrypt/ should answer that question.
