Moving Servers

im currently in the process of moving my site servers... what would be the best way to move all of the data from my vb database to my new server ??

i thought about dumping the db, but thought my vB had another way

You could also use phpMyAdmin or the admin CP to do it, but such methods only work with extremely small databases due to how PHP works. SSH will always work.

yeah due to the default 30sec exec time for php scripts

...although I am reminded of what somebody (Steve, maybe?) said where if you install PMA on its own subdomain or something to that effect, you could override the timeout and backup hundreds of MB with it without hitting the timeout issue.

you could always just edit the script and add

set_time_limit(0); 

then she wouldnt time out

Note that this might make your host awfully angry with you for circumventing their server configuration.

if its not consuming massive amounts of resources it shouldnt matter.

That's up to your host to decide. I just thought I'd pass on this warning to anyone else who's thinking of doing this. I'd hate to see them kicked off by their host for consuming an unfair share of system resources.

And yes, of course it affects systems resources. Otherwise there would be no point in having a limit at all.
