  • Please HELP

    Hi everyone,

    I have been trying to install this for several hours now and I can not get past step 2. I am fairly new to all this (as it shows)

    Everytime I try and install it tells me I do not have access etc etc..

    Can someone please help me get this installed

    Thank you.

    These are the error messages I keep getting - what am I putting in the config.php file that is wrong?

    Warning: Unknown MySQL Server Host 'cheapest-hosting' (2) in /usr/www/htdocs/ereeftank/forum/admin/db_mysql.php on line 40

    Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Unknown MySQL Server Host 'cheapest-hosting' (2) in /usr/www/htdocs/ereeftank/forum/admin/db_mysql.php on line 40

    Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /usr/www/htdocs/ereeftank/forum/admin/db_mysql.php on line 47

    The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please go back to the last step and ensure that you have entered all your login details correctly.

          The short version of the installation manual:
          Code:
          <?php
          /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
          // Please note that if you get any errors when connecting, //
          // that you will need to email your host as we cannot tell //
          // you what your specific values are supposed to be //
          /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

          // type of database running
          // (only mysql is supported at the moment)
          $dbservertype="mysql";

          // hostname or ip of server
          $servername="localhost";

          // username and password to log onto db server
          $dbusername="[b][color=#009900]root[/color][/b]";
          $dbpassword="[b][color=#FF0000][i]password[/i][/color][/b]";

          // name of database
          $dbname="[b][color=#0000FF]vbulletin[/color][/b]";

          // technical email address - any error messages will be emailed here
          $technicalemail = "[b][color=#990099][email protected][/color][/b]";

          // use persistant connections to the database
          // 0 = don't use
          // 1 = use
          $usepconnect = 0;

          // which users are allowed to view the admin log
          // separate each userid with a comma
          $canviewadminlog = "1";

          // which users are allowed to prune the admin log
          // separate each userid with a comma
          $canpruneadminlog = "";

          ?>
          1. Rename config.php.new to config.php
          2. Edit the following:
          Change the green text to your username
          Change the red text to your password
          Change the blue text to the name of your database
          Change the purple text to your e-mail addres

          If you don't know any of these values (I hope you know your e-mail address, though ) you can contact your host; I guarantee you they know how to set up vBulletin.

            Thanks!

            I contacted my host and got all the info that I need to input - then they told me they need to set up the mysql database and it will take 24 hours.

            Does that sound right? Anything I can do myself?

              Pfft, they should be able to do it literally in a few seconds...

              Do you know if your host offers CPanel? For that matter, who is your host?

                cpanel? a control panel? Yes but it doesn't have much on it.

                  Also be sure to set this in config.php:

                  // hostname or ip of server
                  $servername="localhost";
