  • Permissions Questions

Okay, I'm having trouble figuring out how exactly the permissions stuff works.

Here is what I want to be able to do - is it possible, and how?

    1) Have generic registered users read/post messages in public forums - got this working fine.

    2) Have a private area for Paid Members. Don't really care if other users can see the forum names or not, just don't want them to have read/post rights.

    3) Have a specialized "ThingsToDo" groups for each Paid Member. That user (the Paid Member) and myself should be the only ones to have rights to the group.

I don't really get the permission in vB. Can a user only be a member of a single user group at a time, or can I create a "Paid Member" group as well as the "Registered" group and have users be listed in both?

    4) For example, can I setup a "Paid Member" and a "Premium Member" (more exclusive content) group and have a user be a member of both?

    Thanks!

currently users can only belong to one group. in vBulletin 3 you can assign users to multiple groups. no ETA on vB3 right now.

you can edit your forum permissions in your Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Permissions. click [edit] on the group in question under the forum in question, click the "user custom permissions" button, and set the permissions you want.

        Yes
        Yes
No, same as 4. no multiple groups per user.
        No, not until vB3

Jakeman, i can't find this button you said: user custom permissions

Where can i exactly find it?
Ich really looked there you said, but i don't see anything else but the Group-Permission-Settings.

          Version: 2.2.8

          When comes VB3.0 ?

            Jake meant 'Use custom settings'.

Thank you Steve, i thought that too, but that is a pitty.

User Permission Settings is what i really need.

Or what jakeman said, 1 user in more than 1 group....
