    Been trying to install for a week

    I purchased the license a week ago, but can't get past step 3. I get this message:

    The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please go back to the last step and ensure that you have entered all your login details correctly.

    I am not getting much help from my host. I did get an email from them saying that the problem was that no database had been built, but they said that was taken care of and a vBulletin database was done, and everything should be all right. However, I still get the same message. Please help me get "unstuck."

          Actually the first one was what I needed.

          This error means either:

          1. One or more of the following is wrong in your config.php file:

          $dbusername
          $dbpassword
          $dbname

          If you are unsure of what the appropriate values are then you will need to ask your web host.

          2. Or that this db user is not assigned to that database or does not have permission to access MySQL to create a database. You may need to first manually create the database and assign the db user to it. Since each web host is different, if you do not know how to do this then contact you web host for help.

            Thank you for your reply.

            I can't seem to get my web host to reply to anything. Does vbulletin recommend any particular web host that has competent support, and is familiar with vbulletin issues? Feel free to reply here or email me at [email protected]

              We don't make official recommendations but I've had very good personal experiences with Ventrues Online. You might want to check the vBulletin Hosting Options forum for other recommeendations.

                  No, I don't know. Once I get the thing installed, I am sure I'll have no problem managing it, it's just I am not familiar with any of the issues, like Cpanel. That's why I need a host who will at least help me with the install. Thanks.

                    He's using Ensim for his control panel.

                    His host is Dot5Hosting.

                    All accounts have at least one mysql database, etc.

                    If you'd like help installing your board, message me, I'll help you out. (I run a web hosting company myself -- so I have lots of experience).

                    By the way, I'm not that far from you -- Sarasota here.
