  • Blasted 1044 Error

    I've searched the forum and can't seem to find any 1044 thread that matches this issue.

    I'm trying to install VB and based on what my Provider is telling me the username and password are what they should be. However, in the error message I am getting, it says...

    Attempting to attach to database...

    Connect failed: unexpected error from the database.

    Error number: 1044

    Error description: Access denied for user: 'dbuser@unix165.hosting-network.com' to database 'forum'

    Please ensure that the database and server is correctly configured and try again.

    I have no idea where the @unix165.hosting-network.com is coming from as that is not in my config.php file. The config.php has the following...

    // username and password to log onto db server
    $dbusername="dbuser";
    $dbpassword="**********";

    // name of database
    $dbname="forum";

    Any clues? I've looking in other php files and I can't figure out where the email address domain is getting pulled from.

    I haven't created the "forum" database since the manual says that the script will create it. HELP!!!

    PHP Code:
    // hostname or ip of server
    $servername="localhost"
    thats to be your mysql server name, which should be localhost, its above the username bit.

      I've had it as both "localhost" and as the IP address of the server and gotten the same error - the only difference is what's after the "@".

      Any other ideas?

        This error means that one or more of the following is wrong in your config.php file:

        $dbusername
        $dbpassword
        $dbname

        ...or that this db user is not assigned to that database or does not have permission to access MySQL. If you are unsure of what the appropriate values are then you will need to ask your web host.

          your mysql user may not have privileges setup properly to create a database... have you tried creating the database named forum first ?

            Thanks, all. The username and password were correct. The issue was that my provider won't allow me to create a new database, and they never gave me the name for the existing one.

            All set.
