  • Cookie problems - forum won't remember alot of members

We just moved our forum to a dedicated server along with our main website and it went pretty well. The only problem is that now, we ahave sporadic cookie problems. Half our members are reporting the forum isn't remembering them when they log come and have to login.

    Any ideas?

When you moved your forums, did you change the forum URL, the Cookie Domain or the 'Path to save cookies'?

      Hi Steve,

The url is unchanged and I have always left path and cookie domain blank. Do you think I should activate that? Should I specify a directoty already there or should I add one and as the forum is at http://hostnexus.com/forum , I guess the cookie domain is .hostnexus.com??

No, don't change anything. the reason I asked is that if you had changed any of these, this would account for the cookie problems your users are having. I rerally don't know why a change in servers would cause this problem. However vB 2.2.7 was written largelt to correct cookie problems, primarialy for AOL users. You might want to upgrade to 2.2.7 to see if this fixes the problem.

Meanwhile all you can do is check your users profiles and make sure they are set to automatically log in and browse with cookies. If they still have problems, have them manually delete the cookies.

Thanks Steve, have posted some ideas and waiting for feedback. Also, the board is heavily hacked and upgrading to 2.2.7 would be painful and time consuming so I thought I'd wait for vb3. Can I manually change any code that applies to cookies?

The changes in code are quite extensive. I'm afraid the only option to correct the cookie problem is by upgrading.
