  • I am in dire need of your assistance (Header logo + background)

    Hello all,

    I am in dire need of help here. I have tried to edit all myself but for some reason it won't work properly. I figure that I have done something wrong with my code. The problem is that I have tried to get an image behind the logo, an background image (just at the top behind the logo) that fills the entire 1024 width of the screen and on the left site the logo. I looked with Internet Explorer and it seemed fine. With Netscape it looked OK too but with Opera I then saw that I did something wrong. And I know that the original logo and background look just fine in Opera, so I must have messed up the code.

    I am hoping that someone can tell me what to change in this code for the Header:

    <!-- logo and buttons -->
    <center>
    <table border="0" width="{tablewidth}" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
    <td valign="top" align="left" background="{imagesfolder}/menu_background.gif"><a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{titleimage}" border="0" alt="$bbtitle"></a></td><!-- toplinks -->
    <a href="usercp.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_profile.gif" alt="Here you can view your subscribed threads, work with private messages and edit your profile and preferences" border="0"></a>
    <a href="register.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=signup"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_register.gif" alt="Registration is free!" border="0"></a>
    <a href="calendar.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_calendar.gif" alt="Calendar" border="0"></a>
    <a href="memberlist.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_members.gif" alt="Find other members" border="0"></a>
    <a href="misc.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=faq"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_faq.gif" alt="Frequently Asked Questions" border="0"></a>
    <a href="search.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_search.gif" alt="Search" border="0"></a>
    <a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_home.gif" alt="Home" border="0"></a>
    <!-- <a href="member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_logout.gif" alt="Logout" border="0"></a> -->
    &nbsp;
    <td valign="bottom" align="right" nowrap background="{imagesfolder}/menu_background.gif">

    <!-- /toplinks -->
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <!-- /logo and buttons -->

    <!-- content table -->
    <table bgcolor="{pagebgcolor}" width="{tablewidth}" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" border="0">
    <tr>
    <td>
    --------------------------------

    OK, and this is how it looks with IE:

    And this is how it displays with Opera:

    Any help is greatly appreciated. I am a total newbie, so please bear with me.

    Thank you in advance for any help.

      The body background colour is just like on both these images. A dark blue. The color is correct in all browsers. It's just the image at the top, behind the header that doesn't display correctly for Opera.

        I'm quite aware of that. I'm asking for the background color so I can match it up

        What you should modify is
        PHP Code:

        <td valign="top" align="left" background="images/menu_background.gif">
        <
        a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]">
        <
        img src="images/vBulletin_logo.gif" border="0" alt="$bbtitle">
        </
        a></td><!-- toplinks -->

        Get rid of the imagesfolder menu_background.gif and replace it with a background color that matches your current background

        So it should look like

        PHP Code:

        <td valign="top" align="left" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
        <
        a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]">
        <
        img src="images/vBulletin_logo.gif" border="0" alt="$bbtitle">
        </
        a></td><!-- toplinks -->

        Replace #FFFFFF with the background color of choice

          Just wondering but what happened to the other image?

          I see some sorta sphere with animals in IE but none in Opera.

            Hi, first of all, thank you so much for helping me out.

            That is the problem, the menu_backround is the long image behind the logo. It's this one:

            And the header_main (my logo) itself is this one:

            And it's the menu_background that just won't show up in Opera.

            Oh, and sorry about the colour, it's this one:#2E425A

            Thanks again for looking at this. I really appreciate it.

              oooic. Did you create a brand new graphic all together or did you just modify an image accordingly? Because if you modified the original image, the original size may be inside.

              BTW, what's the URL to your forums? I have a Mozilla Browser on My PC so I could probably figure it out a little quicker if I had the URL.

                No problem

                Yeah, well I did those two graphics, but in all honesty, I had no clue what I was doing when editing the header, so I can't answer your question. I did change a few things in the header code as you can see but I am clueless if I did it right. Well, I didn't obviously..lol.

                Ok, here is the forum url: http://www.evkingdom.de/bbs/upload/index.php

                Thank you

                  How odd. It looks fine in Netscape 6.

                    Yes, I know. It looks fine in Netscape and IE but not in Opera and I have not tried Mozilla.

                      Mozilla a code designed to make an open-source browser. I believe Opera uses Mozilla but I can't remember.

                      In the code provided, I think Mozilla doesn't understand a background image for <td> so probably that would explain why it isn't showing up.

                      I could be wrong though.

                        Is there an alternative to td then? I just saw your board and it had the same kind of background that I want only with my images. I checked yours on opera and it looks just as great as with all other browsers.

                          Not Sure. Try taking it up with vBulletin support or the Opera Team. I'm not sure how much more I can be of assistance since I don't know much Opera.
