  • Password Protect certain areas????

I've serched and I can't find quite what I'm looking for??? MAYBE I did not look deep enough, but here's my question:

OK you set up a special "User Group" where these people see only a specific section of your board.

Then you give access to this group by setting certain users "Access Marks"

OK is there a way to make those ACCESS marks EXPIRE?? Where you would set those permissions for say 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year?

AND Have it email them when they are 1 month, 2 weeks, and 1 day from having there access expire?

IS There something like this out there???

I've requested this at vb.org but they say it can't be done.

SO, then, what I NEED is to have basicly 2 seperate boards. ONE that you have to put in a password to access, another that anyone can access.

HOW DO I PASSWORD PROTECT only a section of the board???

    Thanks for your help.

    Yours,

    Kirk Voclain

You can't do that with vB 2. However when vB3 is released it will contain password-protected forums.

        Also.....

......LET'S SAY I want to password protect the whole thing???

HOW do I do that, do I just put the index page in a password protected directory???

        OR

MY forum is located in a directory named 4um/ do I just password protect that area?? and then thus the entire forum would then be private???

          1. No expiration but the password can be manually changed on a regular basis.
          2. There is no set release date for vB3 yet.

You would be better off using htaccess to do this:
