Our forums seemed to have slowed in the posting department over the last couple of months, to the point where it can take upwards of 30 seconds for a new post to actually 'post'. Reading and searching is lightning speed, but actually writing takes an ice-age.
sometimes e-mail notifications can slow down the posting process, especially if any of the destination e-mail domains are down. do your users use the e-mail notification feature? you might try creating and replying to a thread in a private forum that no one else can access... make sure you don't select e-mail notification for yourself. see if it takes a long time to reply to that thread.
Hmm, now you mention it, replies in user-limited forums (admin mainly) take nanoseconds. I think the man has it. So how could I reduce this problem? Fork out the email notifications to a remote server? Or am I stuck with the problem?
you could disable the option by default (regardless of the user's preference) which would reduce the ammount of e-mail notifications. see my post in this thread. using this method the user can still choose to receive e-mail notifications by clicking the check box, but it will always be off by default. or you could remove the option all together by completely removing the option from the template.
ok, but what if email server isn't down.. because my email server is up. I just don't know why responses are so slow. I appreciate any help you may provide.
