    Trouble after upgrading to apache 1.3.26

    Hi,

    I just asked my web host (VO) to upgrade Apache and now the board is down: I get the following message:
    ----------------------------
    Internal Server Error
    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    ----------------------------
    Do I have to change something in vb setting? I am using v2.26 (without hack) and it worked well until now.
    Thank you in advance.

      Hi Eva,

      Thanks for your reply. I sent a ticket but the problem is still there. I noticed PHP was upgraded to 4.2.1 at the same time. Can the problem come from it? I also see from phpinfo that register_globals setting is ON. Shouldn't it be set to OFF?
      I don't have suxec enabled too.

        What's the URL to your forums? I had VO upgrade my Apache/PHP and had no problems. Total donwtime was 2-3 minutes.

            do you have .htaccess access protected areas or your site ?

            does it happen on non-vB pages ?

              Yes, the vb admin folder and to protect images also. I will remove them to see if it works.
              Thanks for your help.

                Does it happen on any non-VB PHP pages? Also do you have a phpinfo.php file? If not create a text file with this content:

                PHP Code:
                <?php
                phpinfo
                ();
                ?>
                Then upload it to your forum directory and post the URL here.

                  Thank you very much Steve! It looks it was an htaccess problem. For some reasons, when there is an htaccess there is a server error.

                  Here is the php info:
                  Can you please check if everything looks ok?

                    Everything looks ok with your php. What did you have in your htaccess that caused a problem. I have one on my forums but didn't have any problems.

                      I had what is posted at
                      I used it on the pictures galleries but also on the board to protect people's avatars. It worked well before the upgrade though. I don't know what happened.

                      Right after Apache was upgraded (and php too), register_globals setting was set to ON and I asked to disable it. Zach from VO disabled it and the board was still down, so I guess the trouble was related to htaccess.
                      Thanks again to you two for your help (George, how did you think about htaccess??) and also Zach from VO [img]images/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
