... move a message to different thread?

Is there an easy way to move a message from one thread to another? It seems there should be such feature, but I can't find it anywhere . I'm using 2.2.6.

You can merge threads together, but I don't think there is an option to move a single post in a thread.

you can use the "Split thread" feature. split the post off into another thread and then merge the two threads.

        A new feature?

        Thanks for the replies!

Maybe that could be a new feature in 3.0... there could be a "move to an existing thread" as an admin/moderator option when opening a message for editing. And the system could add a text...

"moved from thread <threadname>[, in <forumname> forum]"

... on top of the each moved message (the forum name would be displayed only if the originating forum would be different from the target forum). The posting time/date would be retained from the original message.

Sounds like a good idea! I could use that feature.

            Come to think of it...

I think the "move message" feature should be combination of the current "split thread" and "merge thread" admin options. The new feature would work along these lines:

            1. open the thread from which you want to move messages to another thread

            2. select "move messages" from Admin Options drop-down box

            3. select messages to move to another thread (just like on the current "split thread" page)

            4. enter the URL of the thread you want to merge the messages to (just like on the current "merge thread" page)

            5. click on "move messages" button... and the messages would be inserted to the selected thread in their relative positions; if "add a header to the moved messages" would be turned on in board options, a header such as

moved from thread <threadname>[, in <forumname> forum]

would be inserted on top of each moved message (the forum name would be displayed only if the target thread would be in the different forum than the source thread).

I'll post this same message to the suggestions forum as well so that it's on the record, and maybe we'll see the feature in the future .

I think I'd use the feature quite frequently to keep the threads - some of which are rather long-lived on my board - within their topics.
