polish chaset problems

hello everybody.

i have the following problem with the vb:

1. i use polish charset for the forum (charset=iso-8859-2).. and i have entered this meta into the "header" (templates)..

2. surfing through the forum overview (screenshot1 ) the polish letters appear correctly.

3. the same with announcements, everythings allright!

4. BUT:

if i create a new post the polish letters does not appear any more. i think the codepage (or whatever) does not work. (see another screenshot: screenshot2 ) i have just pasted the same string, which was correctly shown on the overview, or in announcements.

5. i have checked the "sourcecode" by "showing sourcecode" in my browser, the same metatag appears in the head descripton.

do you have an idea whats going wrong?

To be honest, I'm not sure, but I'd have to guess that it might have to do with one of the vvarious filters the text goes through.

Turn off censoring and bb code parsing then put some Polish characters in your signature. Do they come out correctly?

1. i have disabled the vbbcode support by choosing "no" in "forums and moderators->modify"

2. censorship was already disabled!

THEN , i used the string, which appears correctly on the overview for my signature! ans postet another topic.

the same result, the polish letters were gone.

after that, i edited the adminfunctions.php and used my polsi charset as metadescribtion (the default settin was 1250 afaik)..

now, i took the string from the "forums and moderators" functionin in the admion panel (the string was shown correctly in the admin panel, because i had already switched the carset in adminfunctions.php) and pasted this again!

this time it works.

so:

it seems, that i can only use polish formatted text, then i copy and paste it from a site which uses the charset describtion!

for example:

if i take the text from www.samo-zycie.com/test1.htm and copy and paste it into a "newpost" or "reply" in the forum, the letters are correct. if i use www.samo-zycie.com/test2.htm as source the text is shown wrong.

ps: when i choose "middleast europe (ISO)" in my browser, by watching www.samo-zycie.com/test2.htm the letters are shown correctly too, but switching the code in my forum does not have any effect!

Wonder if it's the form encoding for some reason.

Try editing your newthread/newreply templates and removing the reference to $enctype. Now make a post -- any luck? (If not, you'll probably want to put that back; attachments won't work without it.)

you can see, that the string is shown correctly as "forum name"..

as "topic" it is shown with HTML replacements for some letters, and as text in the post, it is shown with wrong letters (marked by arrows)..

notice: it is the same string! i just copied and pasted it again!

Now I'm wondering if it's a problem with htmlspecialchars(), since both the thread title and thread text are run through that before displaying...

Is it always the same, specific characters? Or is it seemingly random?

all chars except "ó" cause the problem, like you can see in the newest posting @

it even does not matter, if you choose another charset (win1251 e.g.)

ok, i have installed the polish keyboard in windows, then i use this feature the letters are shown correctly! i think the most user will use this function too (windows users).. i think the best solution is a disclaimer, with all infos about the text encoding..

so, it is just a problem for me, to convert the text i receive via email and get it online (correctly) but i think the most users wont have the prob? am i right?

I would assume that'd be correct and I'm glad you were able to work it out. Let us know if you have anymore problems/questions.

thx, i had help from "turtullo", but we could not find out exactly what has gone wrong, but people who see the right letters by typing (i think the most polish users *g*) will get the right result!
